Senior / Principal EC&I Engineer Staff Roles!

 

  • Job Role: Staff positions for both
  • Location: Warrington or Didcot with hybrid working

About the Role

 

We are seeking an experienced Senior / Principal EC&I Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering complex, safety-critical projects within highly regulated environments.

 

This is an opportunity to play a key technical and leadership role — shaping engineering solutions, guiding multi-disciplinary teams, and ensuring project delivery is safe, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

 

At Principal level, you will provide technical leadership, supervise and mentor engineers, manage resource allocation, and support recruitment and technical development within the team.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

 

  • Defining and distributing scopes of work across engineering teams
  • Delivering design and engineering outputs in line with project procedures and safety requirements
  • Supporting and participating in Design Reviews and HAZOPs
  • Producing and checking engineering documentation, drawings, and calculations
  • Providing technical consultancy and multi-disciplinary coordination
  • Supporting procurement, manufacture liaison, installation, commissioning, and operator training
  • Managing subcontractors and engineering resources
  • Monitoring quality, cost control, and project progress
  • Supporting bids and client engagement activities
  • Promoting and reinforcing a strong safety culture

 

Leadership & Responsibility

 

  • Supervising engineering teams (typically up to 5 engineers)
  • Managing work allocation, progress, and quality
  • Interfacing with clients and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Supporting staff development and mentoring
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations including CDM and CE marking

 

What We’re Looking For

 

Essential:

 

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a highly regulated engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of design requirements supporting safety cases
  • Experience managing subcontractors
  • Experience checking design documentation including drawings and calculations
  • Knowledge of safety regulations including CDM
  • Experience leading technical teams within project delivery environments
  • Strong organisational, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively to tight deadlines
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status (where applicable)

 

Desirable:

 

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), ideally with IET membership
  • EC&I design integration experience with PLC/SCADA systems
  • Experience in design substantiation to support safety cases
  • Experience within defence or similarly regulated sectors
  • Experience supporting bid preparation
